Dermaplane at Home

I was introduced to dermaplaning at Lashology Skin & Beauty Bar in Mokena, IL earlier this year. I was stunned by the results and felt like my serums were able to go deeper into my skin. After speaking with Katie, the Holistic Esthetician at Lashology, about continuing treatment at home in between my dermaplaning sessions with her, she said it is fine to do once a week. She is able to get a much more thorough scraping done with her medical-grade scalpel. I’m using an electric dermaplaning tool I purchased on Amazon which is safe to use and isn’t able to exfoliate as deeply as the scalpel can. I still see some of my skin coming off, mostly hair, but I do see a little bit of skin, and it’s nothing like what your esthetician will be able to do. I’m all about DIY beauty treatments and making my own skincare products. I love to save money by doing a lot of things by myself, but I do get my face professionally dermaplaned by Katie every six weeks. Katie mentions that her clients typically get a dermaplaning treatment once a month, but since I’m maintaining my treatments at home once a week, the six-week mark is perfect for me.

So exactly what is dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is manual exfoliation of the skin and an alternative to chemical exfoliation. It’s basically shaving the top layer of your skin which removes peach fuzz and dead skin. Your skin appears much smoother, makeup application looks better, and you will have a fresh, glowy look to your skin.

Benefits of Dermaplaning
  • Smoother skin
  • Deep exfoliation with no chemicals
  • Reverses hyperpigmentation
  • Gives you a more youthful appearance
  • Flawless makeup application
  • Allows serums to go deeper into the skin

Like I mentioned, it’s perfectly fine to dermaplane your skin at home with a tool. Just be sure to research the different brands and choose one that is well known and has good directions on how to use it. It doesn’t hurt to do some extra googling to learn a safe technique to dermaplane at home.

I’m totally hooked on dermaplaning whether it’s doing it myself or seeing my holistic esthetician. If you’re in the south suburbs of Chicago and want to try dermaplaning, Katie at Lashology is phenomenal. She also does eyebrows and she’s bringing mine back to life!
